Broadband penetration

Broadband penetration is a term used to describe the number of households that have broadband service (high-speed Internet access), usually expressed as a percentage of a population's total households.

A study released in June, 2007, by Internet consulting firm Point Topic, revealed that the US has fallen to 24th place in the world, with a broadband penetration rate of 53%. Number one on the list was South Korea, with 90% of households having broadband. These statistics are quite significant, as broadband penetration is now regarded as a key economic indicator.
